Ir light attachments / illuminators / torches increase your night vision visibility.

Depending on which IR source you buy. they all have weaknesses and good points.

IR torches and illuminators - great for long distance shoots 30 - 40 meter away. - now a down side is.. they do not cover a large area, it just looks like a small Ir light circle on your camcorder or CCTV. - ideal this would be used if you want to zoom in on a area, that is 30 - 40 meters away, you will be able to see it in great quality. to me there like spot lights but in IR.

One on a shoe bracket what can see 10 - 40 meters - covers a wide area, and also can reach a good distance and also runs off 2 AA batteries.

For more update models of Camcorders, there is a IR attachment what fits ontop of the camcorder, this as a brighter night vision film.. and cover all the shooting area, and can reach upto 50 meters easy.
