Facts About Wardsend Cemetery -
Wardsend cemetery is a verry old graveyard based in sheffield - It is a graveyard what many people dont know about as it is hidden away behind the dog tracks in sheffield.
The sexton was found to be selling bodies in victorian times, his house was burned down i think and the mob chased him and his wife before the cops caught him and saved him from a lynching *User sent in info*
Near the main gates theirs the graves of the native american indians where laid to rest
i know one of the graves near the main path through the cemery has a curse on it .... carved in the tomb stone it reads who ever reads these words will meet with a horrible death *User sent in info* Horribale thing to say isnt it, sadly we didnt see this to read it as we didnt know about it at the time, Another myth it seems to me.
Wardsend Cemetery has a distinct military influence due to its close proximity to Hillsborough Barracks. The obelisk monument commemorates the soldiers of 6th, 19th, 24th, 33rd, 51st, 55th Regiments of Foot, Victorian Army, who died whilst at Hillsborough Barracks during the period 1866 - 1869. *User sent in info*
A sergeant in the 84th Regiment (York & Lancaster Regiment), he was promoted twice ‘without purchase’, and was awarded his Victoria Cross for “conspicuous bravery” during the Indian Mutiny at Oonao in 1857. His death was due to ‘the breaking of a blood vessel’ on the parade ground of Hillsborough Barracks on February 10th 1860. *User sent in info*
Wardsend dates back as far as 1161 and was then called wereldesend.(relating to a forest clearing), by 1336 the spelling had been changed to Werlsend and by 1388 it was call Wordesent.
Wardsend House was built on this site in 1477 and stood for 400 years, before being demolished in 1957.
It is said to be the only cemetry in the uk with a railway running through it.
The Investigation.
Simon our group septic actually put this place forward for us to visit - Lee and Phil went in the day time to actually see the place before hand, But sadly we failed to find the area - so we had to wait for Simon to show us on the night.
On the night we gathered all of our equipment and set off to the Sheffield wardsend cemetery.
Simon brought a map of the area - looking on the map the area was huge - and we noticed something on the map what wasn’t clear if it was part of the grave yard. so we had it in mind to cross the big iron bridge and check that out.
When we arrived at the entrance of the graveyard, we noticed that the main road leading into the graveyard was perished, this really scared us.
We thought on, and we all thought there must be another way in... Eventually we found another way in what wasn’t perished but it was kind of a detour around the outskirts of the cemetery.
Once we was about to enter we got all of our camera's out and torches, ready to start taking pictures,
It had just started to rain very fine.
Plus the day before, it had been raining heavily. so we thought there would be mass flooding or mud.
Just walking into the graveyard, we saw leg let, vandalism, and graffiti, We stood around the entrance area, and took a few photos to see if we would catch anything unordinary, We didn’t. Just got Bright colour orbs by the fine rain drops, reflecting on the camera.
Wile walking around the paths, we decided to venture out OFF PATH, I made sure i didn’t stand on my graves, as i am respectful for them. as we ventured further into the graveyard, we had some strange Emf reading. funnily enough the emf was going off towards a tree? There is a power plant in front of the graveyard, but the emf, wasn’t going off as we walked towards it, it was only at mid height of the tree, Phil tried to find a source of power, but couldn’t find once, as it emf was only going off in mid air, at a certain spot towards the tree, It would be good if anyone can explain what was going off to us.. as the source of energy wasn’t coming from the Plant, / ground / or the tree we think.
Anyway we decided to move on, as we was getting no photos in that area, we then moved south east of that area and we stumbled upon a strange big little hill of trees and bushes, wile looking at these bushes, we realised in the bushes was were an old chapel, there is only the outskirts left of this chapel, a few steps and a circle wall, we thought eventually it would be good to uncover this chapel from all the weeds / tree and bush, we took a few photos and nothing much on the photos only bright orbs from the rain, we travelled further south west and saw lots of graves, and tombs, We took some photos and strangely enough, a strange mist appeared on the photos, And it was the only 2 photos we have got.
